日本人は一般的に謙虚で控えめであり、自己主張を強くすることは少なく、物静かな印象を持たれがちです。これは世界の人々が日本人について抱く典型的なイメージの一つでしょう。国際政治の舞台でも、各国が自国の利益を強く主張する中、日本は慎重に行動し、静観することが多いとされています。
Japanese people are generally humble and reserved, and they tend to avoid strong self-assertion, often giving an impression of being quiet. This is one of the typical images that people around the world have of the Japanese. Even on the stage of international politics, while other countries strongly advocate for their own interests, Japan is said to act cautiously and often observe the situation quietly.
国際政治には経済的圧力や軍事的選択肢が含まれ、多様な戦略が絡み合っています。各国は自国の利益のために様々な戦略を駆使し、同盟関係を築くこともあれば、条約の破棄を選択することもあります。こうした状況下では、緊張が常に存在し、世界の安定を左右する要素となります。
International politics involves economic pressures and military options, with various strategies intertwining. Countries employ different tactics to safeguard their national interests, sometimes forming alliances while at other times choosing to abandon treaties. In such circumstances, tension is always present, becoming a crucial factor that influences global stability.
米国を支えることで安定を/Stability by supporting the U.S.
日本は長年にわたり、静かにではありますが確実に米国経済を支えてきました。リーマンショックや新型コロナウイルスによる経済危機の際にも、日本は米国を支え続けてきたのです。第二次世界大戦後、日本は米国の庇護を受ける国のように見えましたが、過去50年間の経済面では日本が米国を支える立場を取ってきました。米国が膨大な債務を抱えても世界の金融市場が許容してきた背景には、日本が米国債を支え続けるという信頼があるためです。この支援は目立つことなく、誇示することもなく行われてきました。
For many years, Japan has quietly but steadily supported the U.S. economy. Even during economic crises such as the Lehman Shock and the COVID-19 pandemic, Japan continued to provide support to the United States. After World War II, Japan appeared to be under U.S. protection, but over the past 50 years, it has played a role in supporting the U.S. economically. Despite the enormous debt burden of the United States, the global financial market has tolerated it largely because of the trust that Japan will continue to uphold U.S. Treasury bonds. This support has been carried out discreetly, without seeking recognition or display.
近年、中国も大量の米国債を保有しており、これは対米政策の一環として活用されています。しかし、中国経済の減速に伴い、その保有額は徐々に減少しています。米国債は登録制であり、米国の安全保障に対する脅威となる国家の保有分は「国際緊急事態経済権限法」などにより無効化できる仕組みとなっています。特に米国債の大量保有国である中国が、米国や日本に対して敵対的行動を取る場合、その影響は注目に値するでしょう。結果として、米国の財政を実質的に支えているのは友好国である日本や英国といった同盟国です。
In recent years, China has also held a large amount of U.S. Treasury bonds, utilizing them as part of its policy toward the United States. However, as China’s economy slows, its holdings have gradually decreased. U.S. Treasury bonds are registered securities, and holdings by countries that pose a threat to U.S. national security can be nullified under laws such as the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA). Particularly, if China, as a major holder of U.S. Treasury bonds, takes hostile actions against the U.S. or Japan, its impact would be noteworthy. As a result, the countries that effectively support U.S. finances are its allies, such as Japan and the United Kingdom.

People around the world are beginning to recognize that Japan has a unique strategy. “Silence” does not simply mean being unnoticed—it refers to a stance of supporting global stability calmly, without boasting about achievements. Japan considers not only its own interests but also the peace and stability of the entire world. Regarding the United States, Japan hopes it will become a truly trusted and respected global leader. Japan understands the significance of the Japan-U.S. relationship, recognizing that U.S. strength is essential for global stability and that Japan’s quiet support plays a crucial role in maintaining that balance.
また、米国の製造業の多くは、日本の高度技術に依存しています。自動車、鉄鋼、造船、半導体、航空、軍事、宇宙技術などの分野では、日本の精密部品が不可欠な存在です。この技術力は米国だけでなく、世界の産業にも大きな影響を与えています。しかし、日本はこれを戦略的に利用することはなく、黙々と世界を支える姿勢を取っています。世界の知性は、日本の「沈黙」という独自の戦略の重要性に気付き始めています。
Moreover, many U.S. manufacturing industries rely on Japan’s advanced technology. In sectors such as automobiles, steel, shipbuilding, semiconductors, aerospace, military, and space technology, Japan’s precision components are indispensable. This technological expertise not only impacts the U.S. but also significantly influences global industries. However, Japan does not strategically leverage this advantage; instead, it quietly supports the world. The global intellectual community is beginning to recognize the significance of Japan’s unique strategy of “silence.”
